Changes to Student Food Pantry Spark Controversy
Perry Hoy
Beginning on Friday, Sept. 8, the Lawrence Student Food Pantry began to operate under a weekly request system requiring students to fill out an online or in-person form, causing concern over stigmatization and inaccessibility among involved students.

Resendiz, Angulo score in draw against Monmouth
Ben Lewis
The Lawrence Vikings men’s soccer team (0-4-3) faced off against the Monmouth Fighting Scots (1-7-1) at home on Saturday, Sept. 23. It was both teams’ first game of conference play, and with fantastically worked goals from first-year Alexander Resendiz and junior Rodrigo Angulo, Lawrence were able to maintain a 2-2 draw – breaking a losing streak against Monmouth that stretched back to 2016.

Hope is a Grenade
Isabel Dorn
Your optimism is your greatest virtue
But hope is a grenade clenched in my fist
To speak my mind will only hurt you
So my confession dies behind sealed lips…

Wisconsinites are no strangers to swathes upon swathes of corn fields, whispering in a slight breeze but otherwise often so eerily quiet that it is said you can hear the corn grow. Rice fields, on the other hand? “You can walk through and hear frogs chorusing and birds chirping – it’s actually pretty noisy!” explains Professor of Biology Jodi Sedlock of the biodiverse rice fields she has frequented over the years.

LU Dance Series review: Kenneth Herrera

Lawrence’s dance program allows students, faculty and guest artists space for unabashed innovation. Throughout every dance event I have attended—class performances, guest artists, even outdoor odysseys across the Fox River—not once have I witnessed an unmoving experience. I leave with some essential part of me affected, my inner child satiated with a newfound wonder.

The case for a car free College Avenue
Nolan Madrigrano
I have always been very vocal about urbanism. My dream is for every city to ban or severely limit car infrastructure in favor of walkable and bikeable streets along with a healthy mix of public transportation like buses, trams and trains. While I don’t expect the City of Appleton to entertain this idea, as beneficial as pedestrianizing has proven to be, at least the section of College Avenue between South Drew Street to the West and North Lawe Street to the east should be fully pedestrianized.
